An AI chatbot for your business website answers common questions from your own documents and hands the rest to a person. Visitors get an answer without waiting for you. You choose which documents it can use, and you choose which questions always go to you.
How it works
For example, a visitor could meet the chatbot like this.
| When this happens | The automation does this | A person does this |
|---|---|---|
| A visitor asks a question | Looks for the answer in your own documents and replies | You choose the documents it may use |
| The documents do not hold the answer | Says so and offers to pass the question to you | You answer the visitor |
| A visitor wants a booking or a quote | Collects the details and sends them to you | You follow up |
| Your information changes | Uses the updated document | You replace the old document, and we adjust the build if needed |
- Starts whenA visitor asks a questionTyped into the chat on your site.
- StepThe answer is found in your documentsYour service descriptions, your policies, your hours.
- StepA reply is givenOr the question is passed on, if the documents do not cover it.
- You getA handoff to you, when it countsA question the documents cannot answer reaches you with the visitor's details.
Answers from your own documents
The chatbot answers from documents you choose, such as your service descriptions, your policies, and your hours. A set of documents like this is sometimes called a knowledge base. If the answer is not in them, the chatbot says so and passes the question to you.
Say it is an AI
We build the chat to say plainly that visitors are talking to an AI. Rules about this vary by place. This is general information, not legal advice. Check what applies to your business with your own counsel.
Where a person stays in charge
You choose the documents, the topics it may answer, and the questions that always go to a person. A person takes anything about money, a legal matter or a complaint. For example, a question about a refund can go straight to you.
Where it falls short
Limits for this one:
- A chatbot is only as good as the documents behind it. Old or missing documents give weak answers.
- It can still get an answer wrong. We test it on your real questions before it goes live, and a person should check anything that matters.
- It does not replace a conversation. A visitor with a hard or upset question should reach a person.
- We do not guarantee more leads or fewer calls.
What we need from you
We need the documents the chatbot should use, the questions visitors ask most, a place for each handoff to land, and access to the page where the chat will sit.
This is one of the jobs on what we build. See how a project works and how we quote, or book a free call and tell us about the job.
